coloured

In this chapter the word ‘coloured’ refers to the African- American balcony in the courtroom where they are all sitting. The coloured people were to sit separate from white people, this is called racial segregation.  In ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ there are many racial prejudices throughout the story. For instance, the African- Americans are rarely called Negroes, they are mainly cold-heartedly called ‘niggers’ or ‘coloured folks’.
