‘Miss Jean Louise, stand up. Your father’s passin’.’

Scout is told to stand by Reverend Sykes when Atticus is leaving the courtroom. She was still in her own little world thinking about what had happened and didn’t notice that all the Negros sitting in the balcony were standing as well. This was to show that they respected Atticus and what he did for Tom. He defended a black man and because of this he was treated differently within the town. The Negros wanted to show him that they appreciated his sacrifices.
